"Merritt Island Studio Pottery Bowl"
![]() .....Oferred for your consideration is this outstanding piece of studio pottery. The mark, shown in the bottom (L) frame, is diificult to read, as well as partially obscured by glaze overrun... I'm fairly certain this is a piece of Merritt Island Pottery, most likely from the 1940's or '50's....
Given are 2 different angles from the side, the mark (incised at the base), and a "bird's eye view", looking into the bowl from above... The high gloss glaze in earthtones of brown, black, greens and aquas is very reminiscent of Harding Black's glazes...
This piece stands ~2 3/4" tall, and ~4 7/8" across the top; it tapers down, and is lightly footed, with the base ~2 3/4" diameter...
Obviously hand-thrown, there are numerous firing-pop marks, small areas of glaze skip, and firing-stilt marks at the underside...
Otherwise, there are no nicks, chips, cracks, repairs or crazing....
a very, very nice piece of unique art pottery! .....
