"Marquetry Jewelry Box"
![]() ...what a nice piece of art!...I'm going to begin by listing detractions I've identified:
1) the front "keyhole" may have had a metal fitting at one time; if so, it's now absent.
( as is the key );
2) this object was a music box; it no longer "plays";
3) the mirror inside the hinged lid is cracked and with "frosting";
3) the darkened area to the floor of the (R) compartment seems to have been created by a "spill"...
...having said all that...what a nice piece of art!
The box sits ~ 2 3/4" high, and measures ~ 10 1/2" by ~ 6 1/8" across the lid;
it features, of course, the great detailed marquetry work in 3 distinct woods, on all 4 sides,
right down to the small "feet"...
...heavily varnished, all wood elements are in VG+ condition, with none loose or
splintering...though probably a commercial piece at a time in the past, this
is fine craftsmanship, befitting a Queen......
